CIETL ResourcesCollege Learning for the New Global Century College Learning for the New Global Century is a report about the aims and outcomes of a twenty-first-century college education. It is also a report about the promises we need to make—and keep—to all students who aspire to a college education, especially to those for whom college is a route, perhaps the only possible route, to a better future. The 2020 Vision for Student Success The Community College League of California convened a commission of 33 college leaders to identify policy and practice changes that, if implemented, could increase meaningful completions in community colleges by 2020. The Commission was asked to constrain its recommendations within reasonably available state resources, a particularly difficult task given the magnitude of the current recession and associated decline in state revenues. Completion by Design is a five-year Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation initiative that works with community colleges to significantly increase completion and graduation rates for low-income students under 26. The Gates Foundation has awarded competitive grants to groups of community colleges to help transform their students’ experience. The initiative’s goal is to give all students the support they need to earn their degrees or credentials.
