EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
On-Campus Employment: Students may work on campus up to 20 hours per week. The employment will be contingent upon job availability on campus. Students must have a social security card to work on-campus.
To obtain a Social Security Card, student must have a job offer on campus, present a proof of a job offer to the International Student Program Coordinator in Building 5, Room 230 (Center for International and University Studies) and receive a recommendation letter, and then apply for a social security number at the social security office with the required documents.
Off-campus Employment: Students under Student (F1) status are not eligible to work off-campus. Students may apply to obtain work permit through the Department of Homeland Security based on Economic Hardship or practical training.
Students MUST contact the International Student Office for recommendation/ authorization/endorsement. Otherwise, the work permit will not be considered by the Department of Homeland Security.
TAXES
F-1 International Students are required to file federal taxes forms. Only if you worked in the United States, then you must complete the California State forms. The deadline to file the forms is APRIL 15. Note: The International Student Office is unable to provide any type of tax advising.
