Black History Month Lecture to Focus on The African Diaspora

Dr. James Taylor, professor of politics at the University of San Francisco, will lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Through the lens of the unique experience of the African in America, Dr. James Taylor will highlight the triumphs and tragedies American Black people have endured against slavery, colonialism, and capitalism in the struggle for cultural and political freedom. Taylor, professor of politics at the University of San Francisco, will lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Cañada College Main Theater, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City. Taylor's lecture, titled African Americans and the Black Diaspora: From Du Bois and King to Obama, is part of the college's celebration of Black History Month.

Taylor will describe how efforts of such influential black leaders and scholars as W.E.B. Du Bois, Ella Baker, and Dr. Martin Luther King have inspired and facilitated the struggles for freedom of other Africans throughout the Diaspora and also made possible the emergence of Barack Obama.
