The Middle East: Cycle of Power

Cañada College lecture series features three experts on the region, its politics, and religions

Three experts on the Middle East will provide insight to the way the people of the region view history, religion, globalization and spirituality as part of a lecture series titled “The Middle East: Cycle of Power,” to be held at Cañada College Nov. 14-16.

Tamin Ansary, a publisher and author who was born in Afghanistan, will kick off the series with a lecture on “History Through the Eyes of Islam.” Ansary’s talk will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Main Theater.

Bridgette M'Guinness, resident middle eastern scholar at Cañada College, will speak on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Building 3, Room 148. Her lecture is titled “Middle Eastern Politics 101: A Primer For Non-Majors.”

The final speaker is Ayad Al-Qazzaz. He is the author of several books on the Middle East and lectures widely throughout the U.S., Middle East, and England. He has degrees from the University of Baghdad and University of California, Berkeley. His lecture is titled “Iraq – A Focus on the Middle East.” It will be held Friday, Nov. 16 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Main Theater.

Cañada College is located at 4200 Farm Hill Blvd. in Redwood City. The lecture series is sponsored by the Cañada College Anthropology Club and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.
