I. Equipment purchased with grant money including:

  1. UV/VIS Spectrometer with integrated sphere.
  2. Educational Gas Chromatograph with built-in air compressor.
  3. 19 Vernier Spectrometers (SVIS) with a large variety of probes and sensors to support newly developed high school curriculum in chemistry, water quality and environmental science.

II. Two New Chemical Laboratory Technology Programs now being offered at Cañada College

Two new Chemical Laboratory Technology Programs:

  1. AS Degree in Chemical Laboratory Technology
  2. Chemical Lab Technology Certification Program

have been approved by the Cañada College Curriculum Committee and the State of California Community Colleges System Office. As a result, two new courses, CHMT 310 and CHMT 340 will be offered at Cañada College beginning in January 2010. These two new courses have also been submitted for articulation to the UC and CSU systems and approved. Our new courses and programs were designed to address local industry needs by improving technological education in chemistry and chemistry related fields in the San Mateo County.

III. New Cañada College Chemistry Equipment Loan Program

With chemistry equipment purchased with funds provided by our grant, the San Mateo County Community College District through Cañada College is making specified chemistry lab equipment available to local teachers to facilitate the adoption of high tech, hands-on chemistry lab activities in high school classrooms. There is no fee for the equipment loaned, but teachers using the equipment to help us improve our service and to report back to the NSF. Pre-developed California Standards aligned lab activities are available, and we provide on-site training (with stipend to teachers) and in-class support to requesting teachers.
