Noel

 

Noel Chavez

College Recruiter & Outreach Coordinator

Noel Chavez, a former Cañada College student and a Sequoia High School graduate, has been hired as Cañada's new college recruiter. Noel graduated from Cañada with a degree in sociology and then transferred to Notre Dame de Namur University where he obtained his B.S. in Human Services- Career Counseling.

As a college recruiter and Outreach Coordinator, Noel works closely with the local high schools and greater community. Noel Chavez can be reached at ChavezNoel@smccd.edu or 650-306-3166.

Gaby graduated from a
private Catholic school in Mexico and decided to attend Cañada College because
of her older sister’s great experience with the college. Gaby is majoring in
Early Childhood Education and is soon transferring to San Francisco State to
continue her studies.

Carlmont - El Camino - Half Moon Bay and Woodside High Schools

Like Gaby, Stephen has been with Outreach for some time, he graduated from Summit Preparatory High School. He chose Cañada because of the smaller, more welcoming campus and staff. He felt the staff helped him with anything he needed. Thanks to that, he works with Outreach in hope to return some of that help back to the students. Stephen is majoring in Sociology and hopes to transfer soon to a university in the Bay.

Araceli Arias

Redwood and Sequoia High Schools

Araceli graduated from Sequoia High school, and she chose Cañada College because it  was the first school to approach her and really encourage her to keep going to school. Although she wasn't sure about her major, thanks Cañada's great counselors, she transferred to San Jose State, were she is majoring in Graphic Design. She's back in Cañada as an ambassador to encourage students to keep going with their education.

Aragon High School and Sequoia Adult School

Baca graduated from
Community School Central in Redwood City. While in high school he enrolled at Cañada as a Concurrent Enrollment Student; he liked being part of Cañadas’s small community and decided to continue his higher education here. Baca is majoring in Sociology and plans to transfer to Sacramento State or Cal State San Marcos.

Gustavo graduated from Woodside High School and now he’s a sophomore here at Cañada College. He chose Cañada because the teachers and staff are very welcoming and helpful. Gustavo is part of the Outreach team and he is here to guide, assist, and share his financial aid wisdom with students in need.

Zulema Serrato

Sequoia High School

Zulema graduated from Sequoia high school. For Zulema, Cañada College wasn’t her first option. However, after hearing about the services Cañada offered, like BTO and Trio, as well as being part of the COLTS ACADEMY, she was convinced that Cañada College was for her. Zulema is majoring in Human Services, and plans to transfer to Notre Dame De Namur.

Akila Mwongoz

Hillsdale - Mills - San Mateo and South San Francisco High Schools

Akila graduated from Washington High School in South Bend, Indiana.  She just received her Social Sciences AA and now she’s finishing up transfer coursework towards an Interdisciplinary Studies degree at UC Berkeley. She attends Cañada College by way of CSM and has stayed and joined clubs here because she loves the environment and the programs in place to help students succeed.

Menlo Atherton and Palo Alto High Schools

Sasha graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School, she chose Cañada because she knew the campus and the professors already, since she began her college credits in Cañada when she was in Middle College. Sasha decided be part of the Outreach team so she could help incoming students. She is majoring in Psychology and hopes to transfer next year to Cal Poly SLO.
