Programs for College Students


Cañada College has a number of programs designed to provide unique opportunities for students, allowing them to focus full-time on their studies and fully benefit from a support system provided through The STEM Center at Cañada College. Programs for college student aim to increase student success by providing tutoring, Academic Excellence Workshops, peer mentoring, scholarships and internships.  Additionally, students are engaged in leadership development, scientific seminars, and field trips to industry and 4-year universities.

  • Students planning to attend Cañada College in Fall;
  • Current Cañada students looking to improve their math skills
  • High School graduating seniors attending Cañada College in Summer/Fall 2015;
  • Completion of Calculus 1 for Calculus based series
  • Completion of Trigonometry for Algebra based series

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident

Must be an engineering student in one of the following California community colleges: Cañada College, College of San Mateo, Skyline College – preference is given to Cañada College engineering students

Must have completed at least 24 units of college credit by June, 2015, including first semester Calculus and first semester Physics Applicants for a full-time COMETS Fellow position must be planning to transfer to a four-year institution as an engineering major in Fall 2015.

Applicants for a half-time position must be planning to transfer to a four-year institution as an engineering major in Fall 2015 or Fall 2016. - See more at:

June 8-12:

Daytime Program: Monday through Friday 9am-3pm*

Evening Program: Monday through Friday 6-9pm*

August 10-14:

Daytime Program: Monday through Friday 9am-3pm*

Evening Program: Monday through Friday 6pm-9pm*

*Placement Test retakes available Saturday Morning

Summer 2015 Physics Jams:

June 8-12:

Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm

August 3-14*:

Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm

*August program is 2 weeks, contact Courtney if you're only able to attend 1 week

Students can attend June and August, all 3 weeks, and continue to go over new material.

Math Placement Test Prep, Priority Counseling Appointments for STEM majors, Introduction to STEM Career Exploration, Tutoring, Individual self-paced online study,  Small group lectures and demos

The 10-week COMETS Summer Internship Program will provide sixteen community college research internship positions. Participating students will be working with faculty from SFSU on NASA-themed research projects. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. - See more at:
