Welcome
Welcome to the Student Activities Office (SAO) at Cañada College . Here at Cañada we recognize that student organizations enrich the social, cultural and educational experiences of students and the larger College community. The Student Activities Office (SAO) is a department within Student Services that provides support and guidance to various recognized student clubs; plans campus activities; hosts workshops; oversees the student club registration process; and advises the Associated Students. The Student Activities Office is also responsible for maintaining the Student Employment and Housing Boards and distributing student ID cards.
Mission Statement
The primary objective of the Student Activities Office is to encourage students to participant in on campus activities while achieving their educational goals for the betterment of themselves and their community.
The Student Activities Office is committed to presenting experiences and learning opportunities that provide students with transferable skills and information that will establish the foundation for students to flourish into successful leaders. The Student Activities Office defines a successful leader as someone who is intelligent, self-confident, articulate, socially conscious, altruistic, honorable, and inclusive of others.
Student Employment Opportunities
Employers may submit job postings to the Career Center to the following email haickr@smccd.edu or by fax 650-306-3457. All job announcements are posted on the Student Employment bulletin board in the Student Center. Announcements are posted a total of 4 weeks.
Interested in Starting or Renewing a Student Organization?
All students interested in starting a student organization or renewing an existing student organization should check out the featured power point presentation. (This file requires that you have Powerpoint installed on your computer.)
- Students interested in starting a student organization must complete and submit the ASCC Student Organization Registration form.
- Sample constitution
- Completed registration forms are reviewed by the Student Activities Coordinator and submitted to the Associated Students for approval.
- Once approved each organization must send one (1) representative to attend the Student Organization Orientation. This orientation is designed to inform students about the various Student Activities and Associated Students policies and procedures, as well as inform students of the many services available to student groups.

On-Campus Vending
Independent merchants, corporations, and non-profit organizations seeking to set up information tables, recruit students for employment, or sale approved merchandise on campus must complete a Vendor Permit application and contact the Student Activities Office to reserve vending space.
Vending Commission
What is the Vending Commission?
- The Vending Commission is a College-based committee funded through vending machine sales. The Vending Commission provides funding for events, activities, and programs that are student focused.
How can my student organization or department qualify for funding?
- In order to qualify for funding through the Vending Commission, a program or activity must benefit or target a maximum number of students.
How can my student organization or department apply to the Vending Commission?
- Complete the following application and submit your proposal request by Friday September 14th, 2007 by 4:00 pm. Vending Commission Guidelines and Application (MS Word must be installed on your computer to access this form.)
How will my student organization or department receive the funding?
- Funds will not be automatically transferred into club accounts. In order for an account transfer, payment, or reimbursement to occur, invoices and/ or receipts must be received by the Student Activities Coordinator.
Do grants from the Vending Commission expire?
- Yes. Vending Commission grants expire at the end of the fiscal year. Request for payment, reimbursement, or account transfer MUST BE received at least two weeks prior to the end of the fiscal year, June 30 th.
Additional Services
Student ID cards
Make the most of your Cañada College experience by paying your $8.00 Student Activities Fee and receive your official Cañada College School ID. School ID pictures are taken everyday during office hours. School ID's expire at the end of each semester. You can renew your ID by paying your $8.00 activities fee, then updating your card with the current semester sticker available in the Student Activities Office. Please don't forget to have your receipt available to show proof of payment.
On-campus Posting/Advertising
The On-campus Posting policies apply to all student organizations and non-College affiliated organizations or individuals, looking to publicize an event, job announcement, or product for sale on College property.
Vending Machine Refunds
Refunds for malfunctioning vending machines can be obtained from the Student Activities Office, 5-211 during office hours.
