What is TRiO?

TRiO is a set of Federal programs that targets low-income/ first generation students, and students with disabilities. Born out of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the TRIO Programs support students from disadvantaged backgrounds at all levels of education.  For more information, you can visit : http://www.trioprograms.org or http://www.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ope/trio/index.html

What is the SSS Program?

The TRiO Student Support Services Program provides low-income, first generation, and disabled students with additional support in college. Its mission is to promote the retention, graduation and success of and transfer to a 4-year university, or graduate with their associate's degree. The TRiO SSS Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and all services are provided at no cost to participating students.

What does the SSS Program Offer?

- Tutoring

- Counseling

- Trips to 4-year universities

- Cultural Activities

- Financial Aid assistance, for those who qualify

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the TRiO SSS Program at Caņada College, the student must:

- be a US Citizen OR Permanent Resident

- intend to graduate with an Associate's degree or transfer to a 4-year university

- be enolled in at least 6 units

- have a demonstrated academic need

In addition, the student must qualify for ONE of the following

- low-income (see Federal Low-Income Guidelines)

- first-generation (parents did not graduate from 4-year US institution)

- physical or learning disability

3. Submit to TRiO SSS Staff (Located in Learning Center)
