IWITTS and CalWomen Tech Project
IWITTS (Institute for Women In Trades Technology and Science) was awarded in 2006 a $2 million National Science Foundation (NSF) Award from the program on Research on Gender in Science and Engineering to fund the CalWomenTech Project. Through this five-year grant, California community colleges will receive expert support and technical assistance to help recruit and retain women into technology programs where they are under-represented.
Eight community colleges selected via a competitive process to receive free intensive CalWomenTech training and assistance on recruiting and retaining women in their technology programs. The primary goal of the CalWomenTech Project is to increase the number of women enrolled and retained in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in the selected CalWomenTech community colleges.
Cañada College was one of the colleges selected as part ofthe project and has been working with IWITTS to promtoe technical programs to female students. The project has been very successful and continues to help our college with recruitment, retention and teaching strategies.
As part of our recruitment and retention strategies Calwomen Tech Project created a great web portal with resources for our students and instructors. It can be visited here>>
ACME Animation Network
Cañada College has been involved with the ACME Animation Network for a couple years now as a result of our participation with the BRIDGE grant. This great opportunity provides our students with an amazing resrouce to get mentoring from industry professionals and get their work critiqued by famous animators.
Their web site is full of interesting resources, check it out >>
