Two Exciting Classes offered this Summer, 2013

Immigration Law (New!) LEGL 272, 54736, 3 units Tuesday and Thursday Evenings, 6-10:10 p.m. 6/18-7/25

This overview, hands-on course focuses on immigration law in the areas of family and employment visas, labor certification, non-immigrant visas, and political asylum. Students will gain a working understanding of immigration theory and practice while gaining practical skills in preparation of forms and supporting documents, handling client interviews, and preparation of cases.

Electronic Litigation LEGL 276, 53323, 2 Units Class: Monday and Wednesday Evenings, 6-10:10 p.m. Lab:   Mondays and Wednesdays, 4 TBA Hours/Wk 6/17-7/10

This course teaches prospective paralegals how to use software and the Internet in a law office environment. Since all federal courts and many state courts now handle litigation electronically (online and with computers), the course covers the functions of PC computers and the use of main or core PC software and programs that law firms use in daily operations and in litigation. Also, learn about the power of the Internet, (troubleshooting, backup programs, online filing, research, etc.), and using the Internet in litigation (investigation, evidence gathering, accessing the courts, etc.). A minimum of 16 by rrangement lab hours are required.

Recognition Ceremony for Paralegal Program AS and Certificate Earners May 20 The Cañada College Paralegal Program is hosting a recognition ceremony for its 2012-13 AS and certificate earners on May 20. The event will be held on campus in the reception area of Building 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

This year, invitations were sent to 27 honorees. College administrators, faculty, and staff will be in attendance, along with members of the Paralegal Program advisory committee and alumni, to celebrate the achievements of the graduates. Family members of the honorees are also expected to be present.

The evening will include a short presentation ceremony and refreshments.
