Student Learning Outcomes

Retreat Fall 2014

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

The Center for Student Life and Leadership Development Staff have identified the following Student Learning Outcomes for the services that the department provides:

  • CHANGE: The Associated Students of Cañada College (ASCC) Governing Council will understand the College and District participatory governance processes.

                            [ILO: Communication, and Critical Thinking] 

  • LEADERSHIP: The ASCC Governing Council will learn team building; identify strengths, and effective communication skills.

                            [ILO: Communication, and Critical Thinking] 

  • COMMUNITY:The ASCC Governing Council and Inter-Club Council (ICC) members will learn how to plan events, know more about campus programs, the diverse cultures on campus and become aware of the social justice needs that exist in our community and in our world.

                            [ILO: Communication, Creativity, Community]

  • MENTORSHIP: Students will learn where they can go on campus to get support in college and how they are responsible for each other’s success and retention in college and in ASCC.

Institutional Learning Outcomes

 

Benchmarks for ASCC Students

During their term as an ASCC member, students can earn a Leadership Certificate, Official Student Senate Pin, Student Senate Graduation Stole, special recognition during Commencement, and a special ASCC award at Leadership Awards upon completing the following benchmarks:

  • CHANGE: The Associated Students of Cañada College (ASCC) Governing Council will understand the College and District participatory governance processes.
    • Be appointed to the ASCC Student Senate and attend ASCC Student Senate Meetings
    • Be appointed to at least one District/College Participatory Governance Committee and attend the Committee's Meetings
  • LEADERSHIP: The ASCC Governing Council will learn team building; identify strengths, and effective communication skills.
    • Attend at least one ASCC Leadership Retreat and/or ASCC Student Leadership Conference
    • Participate in ASCC Student Senate weekly ice-breakers and workshops
  • COMMUNITY:The ASCC Governing Council and Inter-Club Council (ICC) members will learn how to plan events, know more about campus programs, the diverse cultures on campus and become aware of the social justice needs that exist in our community and in our world.
    • Chair at least one campus-wide ASCC event
    • Participate in at least one programming committee for a campus-wide ASCC event
    • Volunteer at every campus-wide ASCC event
  • MENTORSHIP: Students will learn where they can go on campus to get support in college and how they are responsible for each other’s success and retention in college and in ASCC.
    • Upon initiation, be assigned an ASCC mentor
    • Upon completing a term within Student Senate, be assigned an ASCC mentee 
    • Score at least a 75% on the ASCC Exit Exam

              

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) will be assessed using:

  • Presentations
  • Surveys
  • Pre-Test, Mid-Year Review, and Post-Test
  • Questionnaires
  • Focus Groups
  • Review of collected data, and
  • Other methods
