Overview

Purpose of Mural Project

For several semesters students from different student clubs have been requesting a mural project at Cañada College.  Their vision is to engage students of diverse backgrounds in a collaborative mural project that will build community on campus and represent their experiences.  They expect this project to unite their student body and validate their larger communities off campus. As they aim to use art to represent their communities, they are also interested in exploring their identities and values, such as the quest for social justice.  Our students will have the opportunity to self-reflect in this manner through art with the guidance of professional facilitators.

In Spring 2019, a group of up to 25 students will design the mural with facilitation by Susan Cervantes of Precita Eyes.  The college and wider community will be invited to collaboratively paint the mural in community painting days.
