Part-Time Promise Program

Overview

The part-time Promise Scholars program is an accelerated student support program designed for students who would like to take 9 units or less each semester. Students will receive wrap-around services including financial assistance, counselor guidance, and more to help you achieve your educational goals on time. This program is intended for students who have a goal of completing a certificate, associate's degree or associate's degree for transfer (up to 3 years).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Can enter PT program with up to 36 units
    • All majors are encouraged to apply
    • STEM major students are accepted on an individual basis
  • Must complete 2 degree applicable classes per semester minimum (including summer)
  • Must complete FAFSA or the CA Dream Act application annually
  • Educational goal to complete a certificate, associate’s degree or an associates degree to transfer

What are the benefits of the program?

The part-time Promise Scholars Program provides a number of academic and financial support services.

The Promise Scholars program covers tuition and additional student fees between 2-3 years. The financial support includes:

  • Tuition coverage and other fees such as: enrollment fee, health fee, and  student rep fee
  • $650 yearly Textbook vouchers ($250/Fall semester, $250/Spring Semester, $150/Summer)
  • $50 Monthly incentives (electronic gift cards) 

The Promise Scholars program has dedicated counselors who help each scholar to identify, plan for, and achieve their educational goals within two to three years of attending Cañada College. As part of the Promise Scholars Program, scholars will:

  • Meet with their counselor regularly to ensure they’re staying on track
  • Receive priority registration for courses
  • Learn about major exploration and career development
The Promise Scholars program provides workshops and one-to-one counseling to help Scholars find the right career path and build relevant, meaningful professional skills to stand out amongst their peers when entering the workforce. Scholars also have numerous opportunities to meet with various employers at internship and career fairs on campus and attend panels with Bay Area business and community leaders.

Program expectations

  • 2 counseling appointments per semester minimum
  • 1 Promise workshop minimum
  • Submit mid-semester progress report
  • Must complete 2 degree applicable units per semester (including summer)

How to apply

You’ll begin the online application process by creating an OpenCCC account.

During this process you'll be asked for your intended major and an educational goal, along with some basic personal, educational and residency information.

After applying, you’ll receive your Student ID Number (G-Number) via email.

Apply To Cañada College

Students need to apply for FAFSA Student Aid OR the California DREAM Act in order to be eligible for the Cañada College Promise Scholars Program. Visit the Financial Aid website for instructions.
